Vincent Gallo's Buffalo 66 (1998) chronicles Billy Budd (played by Gallo) in the 24-hours following his release from prison, during which he kidnaps Layla (Christina Ricci) from a ballet studio and asks her to play-act as his wife, changing her name to “Wendy Balsam” in the process. Despite Billy’s aggression and emotional abuse, Layla ultimately (inexplicably) falls in love.
